Fans of the supernatural mystery anime Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun have eagerly awaited the continuation of its captivating storyline. With its unique blend of eerie school legends, heartwarming friendships, and underlying melancholy, the series has garnered a dedicated following. The arrival of Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun Season 2 has brought with it new mysteries and challenges for Hanako, Nene, and Kou, and the latest installment, Episode 19, titled “Encounter,” continues to unravel the complex web of Kamome Academy’s Seven Wonders.

For international viewers, the episode became available on streaming platforms shortly after its Japanese broadcast, with English-subtitled versions typically releasing at 2:00 a.m. PDT / 5:00 a.m. ET on Crunchyroll, followed by English dubs later the same day.

This pivotal episode delves deeper into the unfolding narrative where “all supernaturals have vanished” from a severed world. Nene Yashiro and Akane Aoi once again embark on a quest to find Hanako and Aoi, with the Seven Wonders being their only hope. Their mission involves searching for items connected to each of the Seven Wonders.

The central focus of Episode 19 sees Nene and Kou Minamoto teaming up to trace the life of Mitsuba, specifically before he became the Third Wonder, “The Hell of Mirrors.” Their investigation leads them to search for important items or places from Mitsuba’s past, hoping they might serve as gateways back to the Boundary. While at school, Kou shares more details about Number 3’s true nature, and they discover a blank photo in Sousuke’s (Mitsuba’s human name) room that mysteriously materializes to reveal an old house. This house, identified by Teru Minamoto as “The Red House,” is steeped in a profoundly creepy and unsettling history, and he warns them to stay away. Despite the warning, Nene and Kou inexplicably find themselves drawn to and eventually inside the cursed residence, hearing the cries of a child. The episode showcases the emotional depth of the characters, particularly Kou’s inherent decency and his concern for Nene.

The Journey of Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun Season 2

The first season of Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun consisted of 12 episodes, airing from January to March 2020. After considerable anticipation, a second season was officially announced. While some initial reports indicated a January 2025 premiere for Season 2, a later announcement confirmed the sequel would begin airing on July 6, 2025, on TBS and its affiliates. Crunchyroll has been streaming the new season as it airs in Japan, including English dubs.

Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun Season 2 is expected to have a total of 24 episodes, planned to run for two cours. This extended run allows for a more in-depth exploration of the manga’s complex arcs. The overarching plot of Season 2 continues the story of Hanako-kun, the Seventh of Kamome Academy’s Seven Mysteries, Nene Yashiro, and Kou Minamoto as they strive to restore the altered rumors of the Seven Mysteries and other supernatural phenomena. A major plot point involves Hanako-kun revealing the existence of a traitor among the Seven Mysteries, compelling Nene and her friends to uncover the traitor’s identity by destroying the yorishiro (vessels) of these mysteries. Having already dealt with the Second Mystery (“The Misaki Stairs”) and the Fifth Mystery (“The 4 O’clock Library”), their journey continues with the remaining five. Meanwhile, Hanako-kun’s younger brother, Tsukasa, along with Sakura Nanamine, Natsuhiko Hyuga, and Mitsuba (who has become the Third Mystery), are also actively involved with the remaining Seven Mysteries.
