The upcoming musical anime film adaptation of Shinji Ishii’s novel, Toritsukare Otoko (Obsessed Man), has revealed its main cast and a release date of November 7 in Japan, as announced in a new “music trailer”. The film is being produced by Shin-Ei Animation and distributed by Bandai Namco Filmworks.
Cast Revealed for Lead Roles
The new trailer introduced the primary voice cast for the film’s central characters. Masaya Sano, a member of the Japanese idol group Ae! group, will lend his voice to Giuseppe, the titular “Obsessed Man.” Moka Kamishiraishi has been cast as Pechka, the balloon seller who captures Giuseppe’s heart. Both Sano and Kamishiraishi are featured singing in the new trailer, with Sano also performing the film’s background music.
The Creative Team Behind the Film
Wataru Takahashi, known for his work on several Crayon Shin-chan films, is directing Toritsukare Otoko. The screenplay is penned by Naoyuki Miura. Character designs for the musical anime are handled by Masatsugu Arakawa. Awesome City Club vocalist, atagi, is composing the music for the film.
Synopsis of Toritsukare Otoko
The story of Toritsukare Otoko revolves around Giuseppe, a young man who earns his nickname, “Obsessed Man,” due to his intense yet fleeting fascinations with various things. His life takes a significant turn when he encounters Pechka, a balloon seller, and falls in love at first sight. Despite her apparent sadness, Giuseppe, aided by his mouse friend Cielo, endeavors to use his past obsessions and acquired skills to subtly alleviate Pechka’s sorrow and draw closer to her.
The novel by Shinji Ishii was originally published online in October 2001 and later in print in March 2006. The musical anime film adaptation was initially announced in May 2025 and is slated for a Q4 2025 release in Japan.
