The highly anticipated sequel to Trigun Stampede, titled Trigun Stargaze, is officially slated for a 2026 premiere. This “final phase” of the Trigun Stampede anime series promises to further expand on the story of Vash the Stampede on Planet Gunsmoke. The announcement includes details regarding the revised staff and a new key visual, offering fans a glimpse into what they can expect from the upcoming series.

Trigun Stargaze Set to Premiere in 2026

Trigun Stargaze, the sequel to the reimagined anime adaptation Trigun Stampede, is scheduled for release in 2026. This announcement has generated considerable excitement among fans eager to see the continuation of Vash the Stampede’s journey. The new series will pick up approximately two and a half years after the events of Trigun Stampede.

Revised Staff for Trigun Stargaze

Several key changes have been made to the production staff for Trigun Stargaze:

  • Director: Masako Sato (Haikyuu!! To The Top) will be taking over as director, replacing Kenji Muto.
  • Series Composition/Script: Kazuyuki Fudeyasu (That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime) will handle the series composition and scripts.
  • Concept Art/Original Character Designer: Kouji Tajima (GANTZ:0) returns as the concept artist and original character designer.
  • Character Designer: Kiyotaka Oshiyama (Devilman Crybaby, Look Back) will serve as the new character designer.

Studio Orange, known for its CGI animation work on Trigun Stampede and Beastars, will continue to handle the animation production.

Key Visual Unveiled

A new key visual featuring Vash the Stampede has been released to promote Trigun Stargaze. The visual, drawn by Kiyotaka Oshiyama, features a heavily scarred Vash standing with a gun. The visual’s catchphrase translates to “Live and Suffer”.

Story and Characters

Trigun Stargaze is expected to delve deeper into Vash’s past and explore the consequences of the destruction of JuLai, which occurred before most of the manga storyline. The series may also explore Vash regaining his memories, a process that is expected to be painful considering the weight of the lives lost in JuLai.

The new season will also introduce Milly Thompson, a beloved character from the original 1998 anime, as a partner to Meryl Stryfe.

Production and Distribution

Studio Orange is producing Trigun Stargaze, continuing its use of CGI animation. Crunchyroll has confirmed that they will stream the series when it debuts.

Trigun: A Legacy

Trigun is a manga series written and illustrated by Yasuhiro Nightow. It was initially serialized in Tokuma Shoten’s Monthly Shonen Captain from March 1995 to December 1996, and later in Shonen Gahosha’s Your King OURs magazine under the title Trigun Maximum from October 1997 to March 2007.

The manga has been adapted into two anime series:

  • Trigun (1998) by Studio Madhouse
  • Trigun Stampede (2023) by Studio Orange

The series also has an anime film, Trigun: Badlands Rumble, released in 2010.

Expert Opinion

Yasuhiro Nightow, the creator of Trigun, has been actively involved and supportive of the Trigun Stampede project and its sequel, Trigun Stargaze.

Yoshihiro Watanabe, the producer of Stargaze, has emphasized Nightow’s support for the new series. Watanabe also hinted that fans could understand more about Stargaze by looking at other works by Studio Orange.

Anticipated Themes and Narrative

Trigun Stargaze is expected to explore darker themes, with Vash grappling with the consequences of his past actions and the destruction he has inadvertently caused. The series may also delve into the concepts of memory, identity, and the struggle to maintain one’s ideals in a world filled with conflict and suffering.

The series’ tagline, “Live and Suffer,” suggests a focus on the emotional and psychological challenges faced by Vash and the other characters. Fans can anticipate a compelling and thought-provoking narrative that builds upon the foundation laid by Trigun Stampede.
