The upcoming anime adaptation of Masakuni Igarashi’s romantic comedy manga, “Tune In to the Midnight Heart” (Mayonaka Heart Tune), has announced the addition of prominent voice actresses Yūki Wakai and Nao Tōyama to its cast. The series is slated for a January 2026 premiere.
The news follows previous announcements regarding the anime’s production and general release window. “Tune In to the Midnight Heart” focuses on Arisu Yamabuki, a second-year high school student searching for a mysterious radio host named “Apollo” who provided him solace in the past but disappeared without explanation. His quest leads him to his school’s broadcasting club, where he encounters four girls with dreams of careers utilizing their voices.
Key Voice Cast Members Join the Broadcast
The addition of Yūki Wakai and Nao Tōyama brings significant talent to the ensemble. While their specific roles in “Tune In to the Midnight Heart” were not detailed in the initial announcement, both actresses boast extensive résumés in the anime industry.
Yūki Wakai’s Diverse Voice Acting Career
Yūki Wakai, affiliated with 81 Produce, is a well-known voice actress and a member of the idol group i☆Ris. Her notable roles include Leona West in “PriPara,” Itsuki Sumeragi in “Kakegurui,” Sara Midorikawa in “Kiratto Pri Chan,” and Maria von Messina in “Wise Man’s Grandchild.” Wakai made her voice acting debut in 2013 and has since taken on a variety of characters across different genres, showcasing her versatility. She is also known for her musical contributions as part of i☆Ris, which earned a Seiyu Award for singing in 2016.
Nao Tōyama’s Prolific Portfolio
Nao Tōyama is a highly acclaimed voice actress and singer represented by the agency Intention. Debuting in 2010, she quickly rose to prominence with her first leading role as Kanon Nakagawa in “The World God Only Knows.” Tōyama’s extensive list of roles includes iconic characters such as Chitoge Kirisaki in “Nisekoi,” Yui Yuigahama in “My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU,” Chiho Sasaki in “The Devil Is a Part-Timer!”, Rin Shima in “Laid-Back Camp,” and Tomoe Koga in “Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai.” Her versatile and expressive performances have earned her recognition, including the Best Supporting Actress Award at the 13th Seiyu Awards in 2019. Beyond voice acting, Tōyama also has a successful music career, with solo releases and contributions to anime theme songs.
“Tune In to the Midnight Heart” Anime Production Details
The anime series is produced by Gekkou, with Masayuki Takahashi directing, and Yukie Sugawara handling series composition. Tomoyuki Shitaya is responsible for character designs, and Kuniyuki Takahashi (MONACA) is composing the music. The opening theme song is “Tsuki ni Mukatte Ute” by Hoshimachi Suisei, while the ending theme song is “Koe no Kiseki” by Soala. Crunchyroll is set to stream the series.
The manga, written and illustrated by Masakuni Igarashi, began serialization in Kodansha’s Weekly Shōnen Magazine in September 2023. It is also simultaneously released in English on Kodansha’s K Manga digital service. The anime adaptation of “Tune In to the Midnight Heart” is set to premiere on January 6, 2026, on the new Ka-Anival!! programming block on Kansai TV, Fuji TV, and their affiliates.
