The upcoming anime adaptation of Ryo Hiromatsu’s “Uglymug, Epicfighter” has released its first promotional video, revealing key staff members and confirming its debut in July 2025. This isekai comedy, based on the web novel and manga series, is produced by EGG FIRM and animated by White Fox.

The newly released video unveils the core team behind the “Uglymug, Epicfighter” anime.
- Director: Toshiyuki Sone (known for his work on Haikyu!! To The Top and BASTARD!! -Heavy Metal, Dark Fantasy-) will be helming the project at White Fox.
- Series Composer: Kenta Ihara (Ishura, Tsukimichi -Moonlit Fantasy-) is in charge of the series scripts.

What is Uglymug, Epicfighter?
Uglymug, Epicfighter began as a web novel series written by Ryo Hiromatsu, serialized on the Shōsetsuka ni Narō website from February 2015 to October 2022. The story follows Shigeru Yoshioka, an ex-salesman who finds himself in another world with a significant drawback: his looks are -255, touching girls causes him pain, and sexual acts will literally tear him apart. Despite these inconveniences, he possesses ridiculous strength.
The series was later adapted into a manga with art by Osamu Kozuki, serialized in Square Enix’s Monthly Big Gangan magazine from November 2017 to December 2020. A light novel version with illustrations by Akira Banpai was published in May 2018. Square Enix also publishes an English language version of the manga on its Manga Up! platform, describing it as “an epic tale of one very ugly, but ridiculously strong man!” A manga sequel titled Busamen Gachi Fighter SSS began serialization in Monthly Big Gangan on December 25, 2024.
