The anime adaptation of Ayaka Matsumoto’s Unexpectedly Naughty Fukami (Yatara Yarashii Fukami-kun) manga is set to premiere on April 6, with the main cast now revealed. Suiseisha made the announcement, accompanied by a key visual for the series, heightening anticipation among fans.
Main Cast Announced
The voice actors for the lead characters have been officially announced:
Chasuke will voice Akihiro Kaji, the popular and handsome ace of the sales department. Despite his charming exterior, Kaji harbors a secret: he’s a narcissist with a critical eye, secretly rating everyone around him based on his own standards.
Marshmallow Yakitaro will play Fukami, an unassuming IT department employee. Though he appears ordinary, Fukami undergoes a striking transformation when he removes his glasses, revealing a different side to his personality.
Premiere Date and Where to Watch
The anime is scheduled to air on April 6 on Tokyo MX and BS11 channels. For international viewers, the series will be available simultaneously in Japan and overseas via the Coolmic website. This simultaneous release ensures global fans can enjoy the series without delay.
Story Overview
Suiseisha describes the anime’s central conflict with the question: “How does someone as perfect as me get turned on by a guy who’s so… ordinary?!”
The story revolves around Akihiro Kaji, whose good looks and charisma make him well-liked in the office. However, Kaji secretly judges those around him, rating them according to his personal criteria for the “perfect bottom.”
One day, Kaji finds himself on a business trip with Fukami, a colleague he deems unremarkable. Kaji is convinced he would never be interested in Fukami, even if they were the last two people on Earth. However, this conviction is challenged when Kaji catches a glimpse of Fukami after a shower, revealing an unexpectedly attractive and sensual side.
Production Details
The anime adaptation is being produced by AnimeFesta under its toridori boys love brand. AnimeFesta, previously known as Anime Zone and ComicFesta Anime, specializes in short anime adaptations of manga, often with adult or risque themes.
Ayaka Matsumoto launched the Unexpectedly Naughty Fukami manga on WWWave Corporation’s ComicFesta website in 2022. Suiseisha is set to publish the manga’s third compiled book volume on March 18.
AnimeFesta’s History
AnimeFesta has a history of adapting manga from ComicFesta into anime. Their first anime title was On a Lustful Night Mingling with a Priest (Sōryo to Majiwaru Shikiyoku no Yoru ni…), which established a trend for the studio. Many fans refer to AnimeFesta anime as “Sōryo-waku” (Sōryo-type) due to the popularity of that initial series.
Typically, AnimeFesta produces two versions of each anime: a censored “broadcast” version for television and an uncensored “premium” version distributed online. WWWave Corporation often releases these titles in English on its Coolmic website.
Manga Availability
For English-speaking audiences, the Unexpectedly Naughty Fukami manga is available through Coolmic and Renta!. Renta! rates the manga as 18+ and publishes it digitally. They describe the plot as follows:
Kaji is well-liked but secretly critical, rating everyone around him. On a business trip with Fukami, Kaji initially gives him a “0.” However, after a bath, Fukami transforms, leading to an unexpected relationship between the narcissistic Kaji and the seemingly plain Fukami.
Other Anime Premieres on April 6
Unexpectedly Naughty Fukami isn’t the only anime scheduled to debut on April 6. Kenta Shinohara’s Witch Watch anime will also premiere on the same day.
Witch Watch is set to air for two consecutive cours (quarters of a year) on MBS, TBS, and 26 affiliated channels, broadcasting on Sundays at 5:00 p.m. JST. GKIDS will also stream the series starting April 6. YOASOBI will perform the opening theme song “Watch Me!,” written specifically for the series.
Additionally, the children’s TV anime Kumarba is set to premiere on TV Tokyo and other channels on April 6. This series, based on the popular Kumarba YouTube channel, will air within the ‘eeny meeny miney mo’ program on Saturdays at 7:00 a.m.
Boys’ Love Anime
Unexpectedly Naughty Fukami falls into the Boys’ Love (BL) genre, which focuses on romantic relationships between male characters. This genre has gained considerable popularity in recent years, with many successful anime and manga titles catering to a diverse audience. The series promises to offer fan-service moments that erotic BL fans would want to check out when the anime gets released.
