The anime adaptation of Yuto Suzuki’s popular manga, Sakamoto Days, continues to build momentum with the addition of two new voice actors to its cast. Yasuhiro Mamiya and Yumi Uchiyama are joining the series as the voices of hardened assassins Boiled and Obiguro, respectively. The characters made their debut in Episode 4, which premiered on February 1, 2025, both in Japan and on Netflix for international viewers.

New Additions to the Assassin Roster

The announcement of Mamiya and Uchiyama joining the Sakamoto Days cast has generated excitement among fans. These seasoned voice actors bring considerable experience to their roles, promising to add depth and intensity to the characters of Boiled and Obiguro.

Yasuhiro Mamiya as Boiled

Yasuhiro Mamiya, known for his roles as Gigantomachia in My Hero Academia and Magma in Dr. Stone, will voice Boiled, a “hard-boiled” assassin with a past connection to Taro Sakamoto from their time at JCC (an assassin training institution). Boiled operates under the strict motto of “Never take lives except for the target.” He specializes in explosive-based attacks and is currently a member of the Dondenkai.

Mamiya expressed his enthusiasm for the role, stating, “I am honored to play Boiled, a hitman from the Dondenkai organization, in the TV anime Sakamoto Days. With his sunglasses, beard, and fists as his main weapons, Boiled is a character who embodies hardboiled action with a touch of romance and sympathy, which I connected with while performing. Together with my partner Obiguro, we’re here to throw chaos into the mix as we pursue Sakamoto and his group of misfits. Please enjoy how the dynamics unfold as we relentlessly chase after them!”

Yumi Uchiyama as Obiguro

Yumi Uchiyama, renowned for her role as Rudeus Greyrat in Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation, will voice Obiguro, another assassin affiliated with the Dondenkai. Obiguro is a master of Osatsu-ryu Karate and forms a powerful combat duo with Boiled. She has a brutal reputation, reportedly killing over 100 people alongside Boiled during a conflict two years ago.

Uchiyama commented on her role, “I play Obiguro, a hitman affiliated with the Dondenkai organization. I love her interaction with her partner Boiled, where her hardboiled demeanor is matched with moments of innocent reactions that reveal a cute side. The stark contrast between her usual toughness and these moments is so charming! The recording atmosphere was very enjoyable, thanks to Mamiya-san’s comical performance as Boiled.”

Sakamoto Days: A Synopsis

Sakamoto Days follows the story of Taro Sakamoto, a legendary hitman who retires from his dangerous profession after falling in love. He settles down, gets married, has a child, and embraces a peaceful life as the owner of a neighborhood convenience store. However, his past catches up to him as former enemies and new threats emerge, forcing him to protect his family and newfound life.

Despite his weight gain and seemingly ordinary lifestyle, Sakamoto retains his exceptional combat skills and must use them to defend his loved ones. The series blends action, comedy, and slice-of-life elements, creating a unique and engaging narrative.

Production and Release

The Sakamoto Days anime is produced by TMS Entertainment and directed by Masaki Watanabe. Taku Kishimoto is in charge of the series composition, Yō Moriyama handles the character designs, and Yuki Hayashi composes the music.

The anime premiered on January 11, 2025, on TV Tokyo and its affiliates. The first part of the season consists of 11 episodes, with new episodes streaming weekly on Netflix. The second part of the season is scheduled to air in July 2025.

The opening theme song is “"Hashire Sakamoto" (走れSAKAMOTO, lit. ‘Run, Sakamoto’)” performed by Vaundy, while the ending theme song is “"Futsū" (普通, lit. ‘Normal’)” performed by Conton Candy.

English Dub Cast

In addition to the original Japanese voice cast, Netflix has also released an English dub for Sakamoto Days. The English voice cast includes:

  • Matthew Mercer as Taro Sakamoto
  • Dallas Liu as Shin Asakura
  • Rosalie Chiang as Lu Shaotang
  • Rosie Okumura as Aoi Sakamoto
  • Xolo Maridueña as Heisuke Mashimo
  • Aleks Le as Nagumo
  • Lexi Cabrera (Alexa Bliss) as Obiguro
  • SungWon Cho as Boiled
  • Du-Shaunt “Fik-Shun” Stegall as Son Hee
  • Toru Uchikado as Bacho

Reception

Sakamoto Days has garnered positive attention from both manga readers and anime viewers. Fans praise the series for its action sequences, comedic timing, and endearing characters. The anime adaptation has been commended for its faithful adaptation of the source material and its high-quality animation.

The addition of Yasuhiro Mamiya and Yumi Uchiyama to the cast is expected to further enhance the anime’s appeal. Their experience and talent will undoubtedly bring depth and nuance to the characters of Boiled and Obiguro, making them formidable adversaries for Sakamoto and his allies.

As the Sakamoto Days anime continues its run, fans can look forward to more action-packed episodes, engaging storylines, and memorable characters. With a talented cast and a dedicated production team, Sakamoto Days is poised to become a standout anime series of 2025.

Where to Watch

Sakamoto Days is available for streaming on Netflix. New episodes are released weekly, shortly after their Japanese broadcast.

Popularity and Influence

The Sakamoto Days manga has achieved significant popularity since its debut in 2020. As of December 2024, the manga had over 7 million copies in circulation. The series’ success has led to the anime adaptation, further expanding its reach and fanbase.

Sakamoto Days has been described as “the John Wick of Anime” due to its blend of action and comedy, along with its focus on a retired assassin who is forced to return to his old ways. The series has resonated with fans who appreciate its unique premise, dynamic characters, and thrilling action sequences.

Looking Ahead

With the addition of Yasuhiro Mamiya and Yumi Uchiyama to the cast, the Sakamoto Days anime is poised to deliver even more excitement and entertainment to its viewers.
