VIZ Media has announced the acquisition of Tsubasa Fukuchi’s latest manga series, Parashooters, marking a significant addition to their catalog. The official announcement, made on Tuesday, signals that the series will be available for simultaneous release in English, aligning with its ongoing publication in Japan. Manga enthusiasts can already dive into the initial chapters, with the first seven chapters accessible now.
A High-Flying Premise: Inside Parashooters
Parashooters unfolds a narrative centered around a high school student entangled in life-or-death battles, wielding superpowers acquired through a mysterious app where they are bought and sold. This unique premise blends elements of action, suspense, and the supernatural, offering a fresh take on the shonen genre.
Tsubasa Fukuchi: The Creator Behind Parashooters
Tsubasa Fukuchi is the creative force behind Parashooters. He launched the series in Shogakukan’s Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine on January 22, 2025. Fukuchi is also celebrated for his previous work, The Law of Ueki, which ran in Weekly Shonen Sunday from 2001 to 2004, with a sequel, The Law of Ueki Plus, following from 2005 to 2007. VIZ Media previously published The Law of Ueki in North America, making this acquisition a reunion of sorts. In December 2024, Fukuchi also published a new chapter for The Law of Ueki manga after 16 years.
A Look Back at Fukuchi’s Golden Spiral
Before Parashooters, Fukuchi penned Golden Spiral, which was serialized in Weekly Shonen Sunday starting in April 2022 before moving to Sunday Webry in April 2023. The series concluded in September 2023, with its final volume released in November 2023.
What to Expect from VIZ Media’s Release
VIZ Media’s acquisition of Parashooters means that fans outside of Japan will have immediate access to the latest chapters. The simultaneous release format allows English-speaking readers to follow the story as it unfolds, eliminating the wait time typically associated with international releases.
