The popular horror series Karada Sagashi (also known as Re/Member) is set to continue with a new manga adaptation titled Karada Sagashi The Last Night. Launched on July 1, 2025, on Shueisha’s Shonen Jump+ manga service, this latest installment draws directly from the upcoming live-action horror film of the same name. Katsutoshi Murase returns as the artist, with Welzard credited for the original work, and Harumi Doki for the screenplay, joined by film producer Yūki Hara.
The Return of a Horror Phenomenon
Karada Sagashi The Last Night marks the newest chapter in the chilling franchise that originated as a cell phone novel by Welzard. The series is renowned for its supernatural horror, mystery, and action elements, centering on high school students trapped in a deadly loop, forced to search for the scattered body parts of a deceased classmate while being hunted by a vengeful entity known as the “Red Person.” If the body parts are not found, the day repeats, and the students continue to die, only to resurrect and face the same terrifying ordeal.
Creative Team Behind the Terror
Katsutoshi Murase, the illustrator who brought the gruesome visions of Karada Sagashi to life in previous manga iterations, is once again lending his artistic talent to The Last Night. Welzard, the original author of the cell phone novel that started it all, is credited for the original concept. Harumi Doki, an anime screenwriter known for works like Cyborg 009 Call of Justice and Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045, is credited for the film’s script, which the new manga adapts.
Evolution of the Karada Sagashi Franchise
The Karada Sagashi series has seen multiple adaptations and continuations since its debut. The original manga, illustrated by Katsutoshi Murase and written by Welzard, was serialized on Shueisha’s Shonen Jump+ from September 2014 to December 2017, collecting 17 tankōbon volumes. It garnered over 100 million views on the platform, becoming its first series to achieve this milestone.
Following the original, a spin-off manga titled Karada Sagashi Kai (also known as Body Search Solution or Separation) ran from January 2018 to January 2019, concluding with five volumes. More recently, Karada Sagashi I (Body Search Different), a third manga series based on the live-action film, was serialized from September 2022 to March 2023, spanning three volumes.
The franchise also expanded into other media:
- Original Net Animation (ONA): A 10-episode anime adaptation, each episode three minutes long, aired on Production I.G’s Tate Anime app in July and August 2017.
- Live-Action Films: A live-action film adaptation premiered in Japan on October 14, 2022, starring Kanna Hashimoto. Karada Sagashi The Last Night, the upcoming live-action film that this new manga adapts, is a sequel to the 2022 movie and is set to debut in Japanese theaters on September 5, 2025.
“The Last Night” Setting and Release
The new manga, Karada Sagashi The Last Night, is set in an amusement park after midnight, promising a fresh, terrifying backdrop for the survival horror narrative. Shueisha’s MANGA Plus service is publishing the manga simultaneously in English under the title Re/Member: The Last Night, allowing international fans to follow the story as it unfolds. This release serves as a prelude to the highly anticipated live-action sequel film, building excitement for both mediums.
