The thrilling anime series Wind Breaker continues its second season with Episode 17, which was released on April 24, 2025. This episode further explores the lives and challenges of the Bofurin members, particularly focusing on Haruka Sakura.

What to Expect from Wind Breaker Season 2, Episode 17

Release Date and Time

Wind Breaker Season 2, Episode 17, titled “Senior’s Teachings,” was released on April 24, 2025. New episodes of Wind Breaker Season 2 are released every Thursday at 10:30 a.m. PT / 1:30 p.m. ET on Crunchyroll.

Streaming Platform

The episode is available for streaming on Crunchyroll, where the entire first season is also available. Crunchyroll streams the series with English subtitles and offers English, Latin American Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, French, and German dubs.

Episode 17 Synopsis: Sakura’s Life Revealed

After the intense battle with KEEL, Sakura doesn’t show up at school, worrying Nirei. Nirei contacts Sakura and realizes he has a bad cold. After school, Nirei and Suo, representing the first-year class, visit Sakura’s apartment with a care package. Episode 17 delves into Sakura’s life outside of school and the Bofurin activities.

Production

Toshifumi Akai directs Wind Breaker Season 2, with CloverWorks continuing animation production. Hiroshi Seko (Chainsaw Man) is in charge of series composition, and Ryou Takahashi is the music composer. Taishi Kawakami (character designer) and Kazuyuki Asaka (action director) reprise their roles for the new season.

Season 2: What’s New?

New Conflicts

Season 2 continues from where Season 1 concluded, diving straight into the conflict with the KEEL gang. KEEL uses weapons and overwhelming numbers, a stark contrast to Shishitoren’s one-on-one battles in Season 1.

Episode 1-4 Recap

  • Episode 1 (“Rage”): Bofurin faces KEEL after they threaten a Furin student.
  • Episode 2 (“Conclusion”): The battle against KEEL continues, emphasizing inner strength and bonds.
  • Episode 3 (“Re:start”): Focuses on the aftermath of the fight, with characters processing events.
  • Episode 4 (“Senior’s Teachings”): Nirei and Suo visit a sick Sakura, revealing aspects of his life outside of Bofurin.

Potential Story Arcs

Season 2 may adapt up to Chapter 90 of the manga, potentially concluding with the introduction of Chika Takiishi, a former Bofurin member who defected to a rival gang named Noroshi. This would set up Takiishi and his gang as future enemies.

Characters and Their Development

Wind Breaker is praised for its ensemble of compelling characters. Season 2 allows further exploration of these characters, focusing on their relationships and personal growth.

  • Haruka Sakura: A first-year student aiming to fight his way to the top. His initial focus on strength evolves as he forms bonds with his friends and the townspeople.
  • The Bofurin: A group protecting the town, and their unity and camaraderie are central themes.
  • Ren Kaji: His actions and motivations are further explored, revealing his complex relationship with Sakura and the Bofurin.
  • Nirei and Suo: Their visit to Sakura’s apartment highlights their concern for their friend and provides insight into Sakura’s life.

Production Details

The Wind Breaker anime is based on the manga written and illustrated by Satoru Nii, serialized on Magazine Pocket since January 2021. As of April 2025, 21 volumes have been released. Kodansha USA publishes the series in English, with multiple volumes available in print and digitally.

What Makes Wind Breaker Special?

Wind Breaker distinguishes itself with exceptional combat choreography and nuanced storytelling. The series focuses on themes of belonging, purpose, and the importance of friendship. Flashbacks are used effectively to contextualize characters and events.
