The significant milestone was revealed in the 50th issue of Kodansha’s Morning magazine on Thursday, November 13, 2025.
The achievement underscores the global appeal and growing popularity of the series, which has captivated readers with its unique artistry and enchanting narrative since its serialization began in Kodansha’s Morning Two magazine in July 2016.
A Journey of Magical Growth and Expanding Reach
Witch Hat Atelier tells the story of Coco, a young girl from a humble village who dreams of becoming a witch despite being born without magical aptitude. Her life changes dramatically when she encounters Qifrey, a mysterious traveling magician, and discovers that magic is not an inherent gift but an art that can be learned. This revelation propels Coco into a world of hidden wonders and perilous secrets, as she begins her apprenticeship to fulfill her long-held dream.
The series has consistently seen its circulation numbers climb, reflecting its increasing fanbase. By July 2018, it had 700,000 copies in circulation, reaching 1 million by September 2018. Subsequent milestones include over 2.5 million copies by April 2022, over 4.5 million by October 2022, and more than 5.5 million by July 2024, leading to the current 7 million mark in November 2025.
Upcoming Releases and Anticipated Anime Adaptation
Fans can look forward to the release of the manga’s 15th volume on November 21, 2025, which will conclude the “Silver Eve” arc. A limited edition of this volume will also include a special acrylic stand. Additionally, a spin-off novel titled Shōsetsu Tongari Bōshi no Atelier Special Stories is set to ship on the same day.
An anime television series adaptation of Witch Hat Atelier, produced by Bug Films, is highly anticipated. Originally scheduled for 2025, the anime’s broadcast was postponed to 2026 to ensure the highest possible quality and to fully showcase the charm of the project. Crunchyroll will stream the series worldwide outside of Asia when it premieres.
