The popular fantasy romantic comedy, Witch Watch, continues to captivate audiences with its ongoing anime adaptation. Based on Kenta Shinohara’s manga series, the anime premiered in April 2025 and is set to run for two consecutive cours, totaling 24 episodes. Episode 20, which aired on August 17, 2025, delves deeper into the character dynamics, particularly focusing on the evolving relationship between Nemu and Keigo.

What is Witch Watch?

Witch Watch is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Kenta Shinohara, known for his previous works like SKET Dance and Astra Lost in Space. It began serialization in Shueisha’s Weekly Shōnen Jump in February 2021. The story centers on Nico Wakatsuki, a young witch-in-training, and her childhood friend, Morihito Otogi, who possesses the strength of an ogre and serves as her familiar and bodyguard. Their cohabitation leads to a blend of magical misadventures, humor, and burgeoning romantic feelings, all while Morihito endeavors to protect Nico from a looming prophecy of disaster.

The anime adaptation is produced by Bibury Animation Studios and directed by Hiroshi Ikehata. It has been licensed for simultaneous publication in North America, with chapters digitally launched by Viz Media and Shueisha’s Manga Plus app.

Episode 20: “The Lost Wolf and the Stray Cat”

Witch Watch Episode 20, titled “The Lost Wolf and the Stray Cat,” primarily explores the relationship between Keigo and Nemu. The episode highlights their individual struggles and how their interactions bring them closer.

Keigo’s Internal Conflict and New Powers

In Episode 20, Keigo, who often feels he isn’t contributing enough as a bodyguard compared to Morihito’s physical strength, is grappling with his self-perception. Nico, noticing Keigo’s distress, offers him an enchanted ring that grants him the power of flight. Despite his initial struggles to master the spell, Nemu steps in to offer guidance.

Nemu’s Emotional Journey and Growing Affection

Nemu, who was raised to suppress her emotions, finds herself opening up to Keigo. Their shared history of high expectations helps them bond further. During Keigo’s attempts to control the flight spell, Nemu gets caught up in her childhood memories and begins to lose control of her own flight spell. Keigo’s heroic act of saving her not only helps him find a unique way to utilize the spell, drawing on his ice skating experience, but also causes Nemu to develop a significant crush on him. This newfound affection is depicted as Nemu having a “full-on Disney musical in her head,” envisioning herself as a princess saved by her new prince.

Release and Streaming Information

Witch Watch Episode 20 was released on Sunday, August 17, 2025, at 5:30 PM JST. For international viewers, the episode became available on Crunchyroll. Other streaming platforms like Netflix and Hulu also stream the series, though Hulu is exclusive to the United States. Japanese viewers could watch it on local networks such as MBS and TBS, as well as streaming services like Nico Nico, TVer, MBS video ism, and ABEMA.

The anime series is scheduled to have 25 episodes in its first season. New episodes are released weekly on Sundays.
