Manga author Yasunobu Yamauchi is set to launch his new series, titled Joshi Kōkōsei no Nichijō (Daily Lives of High School Girls), on October 18. The new comedy manga will be available on Square Enix’s Gangan Online website.
Details of the New Series
The upcoming Joshi Kōkōsei no Nichijō promises to deliver more of Yamauchi’s signature comedic style, with the November issue of Square Enix’s Monthly Shonen Gangan magazine teasing the manga with the tagline, “High School girls are also silly.” This new title suggests a thematic continuation of his previous work, shifting the focus to the humorous daily antics of female high school students. The serialization on Gangan Online marks a return to the platform where Yamauchi found significant success with his earlier series.
Yamauchi’s Esteemed Background: Daily Lives of High School Boys
Yasunobu Yamauchi is widely recognized for his popular comedy manga Danshi Kōkōsei no Nichijō (Daily Lives of High School Boys). This series, which followed the mundane yet hilarious lives of three male high school students—Tadakuni, Hidenori Tabata, and Yoshitake Tanaka—was also serialized on Gangan Online from 2009 to 2012, accumulating seven compiled volumes.
The widespread appeal of Daily Lives of High School Boys led to a television anime adaptation in 2012, produced by Sunrise. NIS America released the anime for home video in North America, while Square Enix’s Manga UP! Global service offers the manga digitally in English. The series’ popularity further extended to a live-action film adaptation, which premiered in 2013. Vertical published the manga volumes in English.
A New Chapter in Slice-of-Life Comedy
With Joshi Kōkōsei no Nichijō, Yamauchi appears to be revisiting the slice-of-life comedy genre that established his reputation, but with a fresh perspective focusing on high school girls. The implied connection to his earlier hit, particularly with the similar titles and comedic premise, is likely to attract both long-time fans and new readers. Yamauchi has also penned other works, including the fantasy manga Hakurai no Kishi (The Knight of White Thunder), which ran on Gangan Online from 2019 to 2022. His diverse body of work, predominantly featuring comedic elements, showcases his versatility as a mangaka.
