The highly anticipated anime adaptation of Kōcha Agasawa’s romantic comedy manga, “You and I Are Polar Opposites” (Seihantai na Kimi to Boku), has announced that voice actors Miyuri Shimabukuro and Wataru Katō will be joining its cast. The duo will lend their talents to the roles of Azuma and Taira, respectively, adding further depth to the endearing high school romance set to premiere in January 2026.

This latest casting news builds excitement for the series, which promises to bring the award-nominated manga to life with its charming portrayal of an unlikely couple.

Exploring the World of “You and I Are Polar Opposites”

“You and I Are Polar Opposites” centers on the evolving relationship between Miyu Suzuki and Yusuke Tani, two high school students who are, as the title suggests, polar opposites. Suzuki is depicted as an energetic, outgoing girl who often goes with the flow, while Tani is a quiet, introverted boy who isn’t afraid to speak his mind. Suzuki harbors a crush on Tani but struggles to express her feelings, setting the stage for a delightful romantic comedy that also explores the dynamics within their circle of friends.

The original manga, written and illustrated by Kōcha Agasawa, was first published as a one-shot in Shueisha’s Shōnen Jump+ service in January 2021 before being serialized from May 2022 to November 2024. It has garnered significant acclaim, ranking second in the 2022 Next Manga Awards in the Web Manga category and appearing on several “best manga” lists.

Meet the New Voice Actors

The addition of Miyuri Shimabukuro and Wataru Katō to the cast brings two experienced voice talents to the series.

Miyuri Shimabukuro as Azuma

Miyuri Shimabukuro is set to voice Azuma, described as Suzuki’s “blonde bombshell” friend. Born on December 6, 1994, in Okinawa Prefecture, Shimabukuro debuted as a voice actress in 2017. Her breakout roles in 2018 included Yuuna Yunohana in Yuuna and the Haunted Hot Springs, Nagisa Aragaki in Hanebado!, and Inca Kasugatani in Fire Force. Her diverse career also includes roles such as Ai Demoto in Dead Dead Demon’s Dededede Destruction and Suzu Higa in OKITSURA: Fell in Love with an Okinawan Girl, but I Just Wish I Know What She’s Saying.

Wataru Katō as Taira

Wataru Katō will portray Taira, a character who has been friends with Azuma for some time and eventually joins her social circle in high school. Katō, born on July 17, 1997, in Tokyo, is affiliated with I’m Enterprise. He is recognized for prominent roles such as Kokufu in Id – Invaded, Martis Jun Asari in Aoashi, Touka Scott in The Legendary Hero Is Dead!, Squale Mill Kadorecheck in Sweet Reincarnation, Rentaro Aijo in The 100 Girlfriends Who Really, Really, Really, Really, Really Love You, Reno Ichikawa in Kaiju No. 8, and Kabru in Delicious in Dungeon.

Production Details and Release

The anime adaptation is being produced by Lapin Track, with Takayoshi Nagatomo directing the series. Teruko Utsumi is handling the series composition and also serves as the animation producer. Mako Miyako is responsible for character designs, while Tofubeats is composing the music.

“You and I Are Polar Opposites” is scheduled to premiere in January 2026 and will be broadcast on all JNN affiliates, including MBS and TBS. Crunchyroll has licensed the series for streaming in North America, Central America, South America, Europe, Africa, Oceania, the Middle East, CIS, and India, ensuring a wide international release. Medialink has licensed the series for Greater China, South, and Southeast Asia, where it will be available on the Ani-One Asia YouTube channel.
