The upcoming “light anime” adaptation of Hiroto Ida’s comedy manga, You Don’t Know Gunma Yet, has revealed its theme song in its second teaser promotional video. Titled Omae wa Mada Gunma o Shiranai ~Reiwa-ban~ (You Don’t Know Gunma Yet ~Reiwa Version~), the series is set to premiere in January 2026.
Masayuki Deguchi to Perform “Jomo Karuta~Reiwa-ban”
The newly released second teaser trailer announced that Masayuki Deguchi will perform the theme song for the new anime, titled “Jomo Karuta~Reiwa-ban”. This latest adaptation continues the comedic exploration of Gunma Prefecture’s unique culture.
What is You Don’t Know Gunma Yet?
You Don’t Know Gunma Yet is a Japanese comedy manga series written and illustrated by Hiroto Ida. It originally ran on Shinchosha’s Kurage Bunch website from October 2013 to May 2019, comprising 11 collected tankōbon volumes.
Plot Summary
The story centers on Nori Kamitsuki, a high school student who moves from Chiba Prefecture to a fictionalized version of Gunma Prefecture. Prior to his move, Kamitsuki’s only knowledge of Gunma comes from the internet, which paints a terrifying picture of the region. Upon arriving, he experiences significant culture shock as he encounters the locals and their deep love for Gunma’s distinctive culture. The series humorously delves into Gunma’s unique foods, landmarks, school life, and the attitudes of its residents.
Previous Adaptations
The popular manga has inspired several adaptations:
- A four-episode live-action television drama series aired in March 2017.
- A live-action film adaptation was released in July 2017.
- A 12-episode anime short series, also titled You Don’t Know Gunma Yet, premiered in April 2018. Crunchyroll streamed this first anime adaptation.
The New “Light Anime” Format
The upcoming You Don’t Know Gunma Yet ~Reiwa Version~ is classified as a “light anime.” This concept, spearheaded by DNP, aims to create animation at a lower cost and on a more “timely” schedule compared to traditional animation production. This approach allows for a simpler animation style, reducing production time and costs.
Production and Staff
IMAGICA Infos and Imageworks Studio are in charge of the animation production for the new “light anime” series. Tetsuya Tatamitani is directing the series and also serves as the screenwriter, with Emi Saito and Kohei Nakayama providing additional scripts.
Reprising Voice Roles
Gakuto Kajiwara and Jun Kasama are confirmed to reprise their roles as the protagonists Nori Kamitsuki and Otoya Todoroki, respectively, from the 2018 anime adaptation.
Release Details
Omae wa Mada Gunma o Shiranai ~Reiwa-ban~ is scheduled to premiere in Japan in January 2026. It will be broadcast on SKY PerfecTV!’s Tetsudo Channel, a railway specialty CS channel. The title’s “Reiwa” refers to the current Japanese imperial era.
