The anime adaptation of Eri Ejima’s manga series, “Young Ladies Don’t Play Fighting Games” (Japanese title: Tai Ari Deshita. ~Ojō-sama wa Kakutō Game Nante Shinai~), is officially slated for a 2025 premiere, exciting fans of the comedy and gaming-themed story. The series will be a TV anime, and the main cast has been revealed.

Main Cast Announced for “Young Ladies Don’t Play Fighting Games” Anime

The voice cast for the central characters has been confirmed, featuring:

  • Aya Mitsuki will be voiced by Ikumi Hasegawa, known for her role as Ikuyo in “BOCCHI THE ROCK!”.
  • Mio Yorue will be voiced by Kana Ichinose, who also voiced Uka in “Honey Lemon Soda”.

Plot of “Young Ladies Don’t Play Fighting Games”

The story revolves around Aya Mitsuki, a scholarship student at the prestigious Kuromi Girls’ Academy, a school known for its refined elegance and strict expectations for its students’ deportment. Aya aims to transform herself into a proper lady at this institution. However, she discovers that her idol, the elegant Shirayui (whose name is actually Mio Yorue), has a surprising secret: she is a hardcore fighting game enthusiast with exceptional skills and a competitive spirit.

The plot explores the budding relationship between Aya and Mio as they bond over their shared love for fighting games, navigating the clash between the academy’s expectations and their passion for gaming. They even enter Japan’s biggest fighting game tournament.

From Manga to Anime: A History

Eri Ejima’s manga series has been serialized in Monthly Comic Flapper since January 2020. Seven Seas Entertainment licenses the manga in North America. The manga’s popularity led to a live-action web drama adaptation that aired in May-July 2023. The anime adaptation was announced some time ago, and now, more than four years later, the official release date is set for 2025.

Live-Action Series Details

The live-action adaptation of “Young Ladies Don’t Play Fighting Games” premiered on the Lemino streaming service on May 19, 2023, and consisted of eight episodes. Ryoma Ouchida directed the series, with Anna Kawahara writing the script.

  • Mizuki Kayashima as Aya Mitsuki
  • Ririka Tanabe as Mio Yorue
  • Akana Ikeda as Yū Inui
  • Riko Nagase as Tamaki Ichinose

Manga Details

The manga series, Young Ladies Don’t Play Fighting Games, has been running since January 2020. There are currently eight tankōbon volumes. The English version is published by Seven Seas Entertainment. The story centers around the Kuromi Girls’ Academy, where Aya is trying to fit in, but discovers Shirayuri’s passion for fighting games. The manga is an over-the-top comedy about young ladies who love hardcore gaming.
