The popular action-comedy manga series Sakamoto Days, penned and illustrated by Yuuto Suzuki, is officially entering its “Final Battle” arc with its upcoming chapter in Weekly Shonen Jump’s combined 36th and 37th issue, set to ship on August 4. This announcement signals the beginning of the climax for the series, which has been serialized since November 2020.

The Road to the Final Battle

Sakamoto Days has captivated readers with its unique blend of intense action, sharp humor, and heartwarming slice-of-life elements. The story centers on Taro Sakamoto, a former legendary hitman who was once feared across the criminal underworld. However, after falling in love, he retired from his violent past, got married, had a daughter, and settled into a mundane life running a convenience store.

Despite his newfound peaceful existence and a noticeable weight gain, Sakamoto’s past as a deadly assassin frequently catches up to him. To protect his family and maintain his no-kill policy, he is constantly pulled back into conflicts, relying on his formidable skills and the assistance of allies like Shin Asakura, a clairvoyant former hitman, and Lu Xiaotang, an orphaned crime boss daughter and martial arts expert. The series has explored various arcs, gradually increasing the stakes and delving deeper into Sakamoto’s history and the dangerous criminal underworld he left behind.

What to Expect from the Climax

The “Final Battle” arc is anticipated to be the most thrilling and high-stakes conflict in the series. While specific details remain under wraps, fans widely expect a major confrontation between Sakamoto’s group, the Japan Assassin’s Association (JAA), and Slur’s faction of killers. Kei Uzuki (Slur), who has been established as Sakamoto’s primary antagonist and ideological opposite, is expected to play a central role in this impending showdown.

The manga has released 222 chapters as of July 20, 2025, with chapter 223 slated for July 28, meaning the “Final Battle” will commence with chapter 224 on August 4. While the term “final battle” often suggests a series is nearing its conclusion, the exact duration of this arc and the manga’s ultimate end date have not been officially announced. Some fans believe it could take several months or even a year to fully resolve, given the number of plotlines and character confrontations still awaiting resolution. Regardless of its length, this arc is poised to be a definitive moment for the series, bringing together all the major players for a decisive conclusion.

Serialization and Adaptation

Sakamoto Days has been serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine since November 2020. Its chapters have been collected into 22 tankōbon volumes as of June 2025. Viz Media and Manga Plus simultaneously publish the series in English, allowing international fans to keep up with the latest chapters.

The manga’s popularity led to an anime television series adaptation produced by TMS Entertainment, which premiered in January 2025 and is currently streaming its second cour. Additionally, a spin-off manga titled Sakamoto Holidays began serialization in Saikyō Jump in July 2024, and the main manga has inspired a novel series and a smartphone puzzle game. As Sakamoto Days enters its final arc, it solidifies its place as a significant title within the modern shonen landscape.
