City The Animation Welcomes Yū Miyazaki and Ryōta Suzuki to its Cast

The upcoming anime adaptation of Keiichi Arawi’s CITY manga, titled City The Animation, has announced the addition of two new voice actors to its cast: Yū Miyazaki and Ryōta Suzuki. This news arrives as anticipation builds for the anime’s premiere in July 2025.

New Cast Members and Their Roles

  • Yū Miyazaki will be voicing Oni Kamaboko, a manga artist within the CITY universe.
  • Ryōta Suzuki will be playing Todoroki, Kamaboko’s editor at “Weekly CITY Magazine”.

These castings were revealed as part of a weekly announcement schedule by the anime’s staff, heightening excitement among fans each Monday.

Premier Date and Broadcast Details

City The Animation is scheduled to premiere on July 6, 2025, on Tokyo MX at 24:00 JST (effectively July 7 at 12:00 AM). Following this initial broadcast, the anime will also air on ABC TV and TV Aichi at later times. Additionally, BS11 will begin airing the series on July 7 at 11:00 PM JST.

About the Anime

City The Animation adapts the manga CITY by Keiichi Arawi, known for his previous work, Nichijou – My ordinary life. The anime is produced by Kyoto Animation. It will be the studio’s first non-sequel anime in six years.

The story is described as a slice-of-life comedy. It revolves around the daily lives of the residents of the “CITY,” including a penniless college student named Midori Nagumo. The official description states: “This town is not just a normal town. There’s laughter, love and emotional moments. An unpredictable ordinary life presented by the residents! CITY is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Keiichi Arawi. It was serialized in Kodansha’s Morning magazine from September 2016 to February 2021, with a total of 13 tankōbon volumes published. The series returned in Morning on December 12, 2024, three years after its conclusion.

City the Animation is being directed by Taichi Ishidate (known for his work on Violet Evergarden and Beyond the Boundary) at Kyoto Animation. Tamami Tokuyama (Sound! Euphonium) is handling character designs and serving as chief animation director. Shiori Yamazaki (Violet Evergarden: The Movie) is the art director. The music is being composed by the instrumental band Piranhans.

Yū Miyazaki: A Brief Overview

Yū Miyazaki (宮崎 遊, Miyazaki Yū, born October 7, 1991) is a Japanese voice actor from Kanagawa Prefecture. He is affiliated with Tokyo Actor’s Consumer’s Cooperative Society. He is known for voicing Kiel in 100 Sleeping Princes and the Kingdom of Dreams and Itsuomi Nagi in A Sign of Affection.

Miyazaki became interested in narration after being impressed by a commercial for the Central Japan Railway Company’s Sō da: Kyōto, ikō campaign. He graduated from Haikyo Voice Actors Studio and joined Tokyo Actor’s Consumer’s Cooperative Society in 2015.

Suzuki has been active since 2016 and has a diverse range of roles in anime, video games, and dubbing.
