Hiroyuki Etō’s Magical Circle Guru-Guru 2 manga is coming to an end with its next volume. The sequel to the beloved Magical Circle Guru-Guru series, which started serialization in 2012, will release its 20th and final volume soon, marking the end of a magical journey for fans.

A Nostalgic Return

Magical Circle Guru-Guru is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Hiroyuki Etō. It was originally serialized in Enix’s Monthly Shōnen Gangan from 1992 to 2003, spanning 16 volumes. The series gained immense popularity and was adapted into an anime series in 1994.

The original manga follows the adventures of Nike, a young boy forced into the role of a hero, and Kukuri, a descendant of the Migu Migu tribe who practices a unique form of magic called “Guru-Guru.” Together, they embark on a quest to defeat the demon lord Giri, encountering various monsters, quirky characters, and humorous situations along the way. The series is known for its comedic take on the RPG genre, parodying elements from games like Dragon Quest.

After the original series concluded, Etō created a side story titled Dance Legend! North North Old Man, which ran for seven volumes. In 2012, he launched Magical Circle Guru-Guru 2 in Gangan Online, continuing the adventures of Nike and Kukuri.

What is Magical Circle Guru-Guru 2 About?

Magical Circle Guru-Guru 2 picks up where the original series left off. Peace has returned to the world after Nike and Kukuri defeated Lord Giri. However, their peaceful days are short-lived. Two weeks after Giri’s defeat, a new evil emerges. Nike is summoned to Castle Godai, but Kukuri is left behind because she has lost her Guru-Guru magic.

Frustrated by her inability to help, Kukuri starts studying and accidentally creates a new form of Guru-Guru magic. With her powers restored, she rejoins Nike, and the duo sets off on a new adventure. The sequel retains the humor and charm of the original series while introducing new characters and challenges.

Hiroyuki Etō: The Mastermind Behind the Magic

Hiroyuki Etō is a Japanese manga artist and DJ known for his work on the Magical Circle Guru-Guru series. Born in Taketa City, Oita Prefecture, Etō began his career by submitting comics to Comic Again magazine in 1985. He gained recognition for his humorous style and unique character designs.

Etō’s work is heavily influenced by his love for rock music, science fiction, and video games. He incorporates these elements into his manga, creating imaginative and engaging stories. In addition to his work as a manga artist, Etō is also a DJ under the name NICK-Q, hosting events called “Happy UFO Party” (HUP).

Legacy of Guru-Guru

Magical Circle Guru-Guru has left a lasting impact on the manga and anime world. The series is praised for its humor, memorable characters, and creative world-building. It has also been credited with popularizing the parody of RPGs in manga.

The original manga was adapted into three anime series: Magical Circle Guru-Guru (1994-1995), Doki Doki Legend Magical Circle Guru-Guru (2000), and a remake in 2017. The anime adaptations have further expanded the series’ fanbase, introducing it to new audiences worldwide.

With Magical Circle Guru-Guru 2 coming to an end, fans can look back on the series’ rich history and appreciate the magical journey that Hiroyuki Etō has created. While the manga may be ending, the adventures of Nike and Kukuri will continue to live on in the hearts of fans for years to come.
