The highly anticipated TV anime adaptation of Umikaze Minamino’s light novel series, Kunon the Sorcerer Can See (Majutsu-shi Kunon wa Mieteiru), has revealed additional cast members and key staff, alongside confirming its premiere in January 2026. Crunchyroll will simulcast the series, which will broadcast in Japan on TOKYO MX, BS Asahi, and WOWOW.

Unveiling the Production Team and Studio

The anime adaptation is being helmed by a skilled team, with Hideaki Ōba (known for Love of Kill and I’m in Love with the Villainess) directing the series at animation studio Platinum Vision. Yuki Enatsu is responsible for the series composition and scripts, while Yōko Satō and Toshimitsu Kobayashi are handling character designs. The musical score will be composed by Shunsuke Takizawa of TRYTONELABO. The opening theme song, “Rakenaria no Yume” (‘Dream of Rakenaria’), will be performed by Isekaijoucho.

Expanding the Voice Cast

Fans can look forward to a talented lineup of voice actors bringing the characters to life. Saori Hayami is cast as the protagonist, Kunon Gurion. Maaya Uchida will voice Kunon’s maid, Iko Round. A new cast addition announced is Akari Kitō, who will portray Mirika Huguria, the ninth princess and Kunon’s fiancée. Kitō expressed her thoughts on her character, describing Mirika as “a very straightforward and cute girl” with “very straightforward feelings for Kunon,” emphasizing her brave and endearing side.

Character Spotlight: Kunon Gurion

Kunon Gurion is a young man born without sight, whose ambition is to create new eyes for himself using water magic. Despite his disability, he quickly surpasses his mentor, honing his talent in pursuit of a feat previously thought impossible. The story follows this blind genius as he delves into the mysteries of magic and defies conventional wisdom.

The Genesis of the Series

Kunon the Sorcerer Can See originated as a web novel on the Shōsetsuka ni Narō website in August 2021, where it continues to be ongoing. The series gained significant popularity, even topping the general yearly ranking on the platform in August 2022. Fujimi Shobo, under its Kadokawa Books imprint, began publishing the light novel version with illustrations by Laruha in March 2022, with seven volumes released to date. A manga adaptation, illustrated by La-na, launched in Media Factory’s Monthly Comic Alive magazine in April 2022 and has six volumes currently released. Yen Press publishes the official English versions of both the light novels and the manga.

Synopsis: A Journey of Magical Discovery

Crunchyroll describes the series as a fantasy about a blind genius, Kunon, who aims to open up the world through his curiosity and pursuit of magic. The narrative follows Kunon’s unique journey as he strives to accomplish the unprecedented feat of creating eyes through water magic, quickly demonstrating extraordinary talent and ingenuity that catches the attention of the court. His single-minded ambition leads him to surpass his teacher, allowing him to sense color, produce useful items, and even create a lifelike cat from water with only basic spells. This magical quest promises a rich storytelling experience focusing on character development and the challenges Kunon faces in achieving his ultimate goal.

The anime is set to be a captivating watch for fans of fantasy and “magical quest” stories, offering a fresh perspective with its unique premise and compelling protagonist.
